Fish Farms

Several Salmon aquaculture sites are currently being proposed for the approach waters to the Skeena River. These farms have had devastating impacts on wild salmon populations all over the world, destroying Atlantic salmon, Sea trout and pacific salmon populations. Sea lice abundance near fish farms has been shown to be 30,000 times higher than natural levels. It only takes a couple of these lice to kill juvenile salmon as they pass near these farm sites on their way out to sea. The proposed farm sites are on out migration routes for Skeena steelhead and salmon juveniles. Many NCSA members have been instrumental in helping keep fish farms out of our waters to date. This battle is not yet won and we encourage people to take action and educate themselves by visiting Friends of Wild Salmon, an organization dedicated to keeping our north coast fish farm free.
